Below is a series of stills taken from video footage of the clash between the top two boats during the recent Umkomaas Marathon. Apologies for the poor quality. We are trying to get permission to use footage from the race from production company atv, so check back shortly.

Meanwhile, Hank McGregor’s one year sentence (6 months suspended) is currently under appeal, with top paddler Ant Rowan representing Hank. The appeal is not an attempt to get out of any punishment, it is rather focussed on the severity of the sentence. McGregor believes there to be a more constructive sentence that would be in the better interest of the sport. We await further developments.

infringing

the rule of paddling infringement is very simple: the paddler behind has to give way to the paddler in front and that means that the back paddler may not interfere with the front paddler whatsoever.

looking at the pictures i can only see one thing and that is interference. if there were cross currents or rocks or strong winds or whatever it is even more reason for the back paddler to backoff and stay clear of the front paddler!

so who was the race jury and did they have access to these pictures?

as far as the csa board is concerned, i fear there is not much paddling intelligence up there...
