The South African paddling community is mourning the loss of our paddling icon- Graeme Pope-Ellis- in a tragic tractor accident on his farm in the Table mountain area.

In the words of Dave Macleod- "I am shattered to hear the awful news about Graeme Pope-Ellis.

With his empathy, humility and generosity of spirit, coupled with the respect and affection with which he was held by the entire paddling community, it is unfathomable to imagine paddling in this country without Graeme. A great man, a great Dusi paddler, a great competitor, a gentleman.

Our hearts go out to Wendy and the family. I know as a community we will rally around them and give them our full support in this awful time."

A past article in the Mail and Guardian sums up the achievements and a very brief insight into the character of “the Pope” HERE.
